It's possible, if only you're able to find command-line programs or write shell scripts that do what you need. SMS Reception Center will run any command-line utility for you, maybe depending on the content of your SMS request; then SmsRc may reformat the program's output and send it back to you.

The SMS Reception Center's distribution contains an example configuration (an “action file” that is called “Ping and report”) that may serve as a pattern for using other command-line tools remotely.
